Popularity of the Hatsu Basho 2020 on Reddit.com/r/sumo

Every basho, I recorded the traffic of Reddit.com/r/sumo in number of unique visitors and pageviews. I wasn’t sure what to expect for this basho, but. . .wow! It was an all-time high for monthly pageviews! I think it was partially because a Reddit.com user posted a video complication of Enho to a larger subreddit on Day 1 of the Hatsu Basho 2020, but it does seem that many of those new users stuck around for the whole basho. Neat!

The number of pageviews has been steadily increasing month-by-month, but this month really blew it away. We reached the 250,000 mark, and had three notably high-viewership days. Let’s see if our pageviews remain that high throughout the year.

Lastly, in case you were wondering, the most-viewed day from May 2019 was the Tochinoshin controversy – when he was fighting to remain an ozeki and a judge called a very controversial matta.
