This basho has been a test for Wakaichirō. At his highest rank ever, Wakaichirō has never faced competition like this before. While he isn’t getting an “A” on this test, he certainly isn’t failing either.
So far, Wakaichirō’s biggest downfall seems to be his experience. As you’ll see, he got a late start on one match, and he got overexcited on another. If he didn’t make those two mistakes, he could be 3-1 right now rather than 1-3. Either way, all of the matches have been very close, and Wakaichirō seems like he belongs at this rank – if not higher!
Below are gifs of all the matches. As always, please email me at NorthAmericanSumo@Gmail.com if you have any questions or comments!
Wakaichirō Match 1 – Opponent: Wakanofuji Takashi
Wakaichirō Match 2 – Opponent: Fujinowaka Sho
Wakaichirō Match 3 – Opponent: Asonishiki Yusei
Wakaichirō Match 4 – Opponent: Teraoumi Daishi
As mentioned, Wakaichirō looked strong in his matches, even during the losses. While extremely difficult, Wakaichirō has a chance of getting the kachi-koshi still. Can he do it? I think he certainly can. Will he do it? Only time will tell!
