As usual, I recorded the traffic of Reddit.com/r/sumo for the most recent basho. I’m now getting enough data that some interesting trends are appearing. The charts are below, followed by some very brief interpretation. If you’d like to see a particular article on NorthAmericanSumo.com, please email me at NorthAmericanSumo@Gmail.com.

Since Reddit.com/r/sumo started including daily threads for basho, the number of visitors has remained fairly constant; however, the number of pageviews has continued to grow. I guess this means that the subreddit isn’t becoming more popular, per se, but instead that users are getting more into the sport. Also, it is interesting to see that the most recent basho had the most consistent number of pageviews and unique visitors of any basho (and it was relatively high), but there didn’t seem to be a climax day like most basho. I guess this is because everyone thought Hakuho was going to win since day 6 or 7, and it became uneventful. Lastly, one of the largest predictors of pageviews and unique visitors is still whether Tochinoshin is healthy and competing. Hopefully he will be back sooner rather than later in 2020.
